LLIN (Long lasting insecticidal nets) Mosquito Nets

Description

Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN’s), treated with WHOPES (WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme) recommended insecticide, provide effective protection against mosquitoes and other insects and are essential for malaria control strategy. The LLIN mosquito nets require no further treatment during their expected life span (average 3-5 years) and are usually provided with necessary loops for hanging.

In 2001 Olyset™ Net became the first bed net to have been categorized as an LLIN by the World Health Organization Pesticide Evaluation Scheme (WHOPES), now superseded by WHO Prequalification (PQ). The technology used combines plastic and insecticide technology and expertise – the net fibres are made from hard wearing and highly durable polyethylene which contain permethrin – an extremely effective insecticide that both repels and kills mosquitoes.

Olyset™ Plus is a next generation, polyethylene based, long-lasting insecticidal net (LLIN) treated with the pyrethroid insecticide permethrin plus the synergist, piperonyl butoxide (PBO). Proven in clinical trials to be more effective at reducing malaria prevalence in areas of insecticide resistance compared with a standard LLIN.

MiraNet™ mosquito net is a polyethylene material mosquito net categorized as an LLIN by the World Health Organization Pesticide Evaluation Scheme (WHOPES), now superseded by WHO Prequalification (PQ). It was developed in response to the need for a mosquito net with a smaller mesh size to prevent smaller size mosquitoes in some regions of Africa from penetrating through into the mosquito nets.
